legal advice and referral

Interviews during our evening advice sessions are usually limited to 20 to 30 minutes to enable us to assist as many people as possible.

A qualified practitioner will give general advice, assist clients to work out the best course of action to take and provide a written copy of the advice.

Referrals are given to the Legal Aid Office (Queensland), private solicitors and other appropriate offices and agencies.

We do not provide legal advice in the following areas of law:

IMMIGRATION, TAX, CONVEYANCING, COMMERCIAL MATTERS, SMALL BUSINESSES, INVESTMENT PROPERTIES, PERSONAL INJURIES, NATIVE TITLE, BUILDING DISPUTES (ie. between you and someone you have contracted to work on your home).

We cannot assist with writing wills.

Most other areas of law we can assist in. Our drop-in legal advice sessions are staffed by volunteer lawyers. You may wish to call us the afternoon you plan to come in to check that a lawyer with knowledge relevant to your problem will be attending.

For a referral to a private lawyer who may be able to assit you with matters that fall into the categories above please see our referral list here.

Unfortunately we cannot provide advice of a legal nature over the telephone, except in cases of emergency.

Read our Client Privacy Policy here.
